It is my great pleasure, as School Principal, to welcome you to our school website and to give you an insight into the vibrant, inclusive and caring community that is Scoil San Carlo Senior National School. Founded in 1985, San Carlo Senior School has been an important part of the Confey and Leixlip community for over 40 years. Today, we are a co-educational Catholic Senior Primary School catering for children from 3rd to 6th Class, welcoming pupils and families of all faiths and none. Our school has a proud history, but we are equally focused on looking forward and ensuring that our children are prepared to embrace the opportunities and challenges of the future.

At the heart of everything we do are our children. We want every pupil who walks through our doors to feel safe, valued, respected and encouraged to be the very best version of themselves. We recognise that every child is unique, with their own strengths, interests, talents and individual needs. Our responsibility is to create an environment where every child can flourish academically, socially, emotionally, physically and personally.

Our school motto, Samhlaíocht, Saothar, Cúram — Imagination, Work, Care, captures much of what we believe in. We want our pupils to be imaginative and curious, to understand the value of effort and perseverance, and above all to show care and respect for themselves, for others and for the world around them.

We are fortunate to have a dedicated and committed staff team who work collaboratively to provide our pupils with rich and varied learning experiences. Learning at San Carlo extends well beyond the classroom. Throughout the school year, our children have opportunities to engage in STEM and scientific enquiry, creative arts, music, sport, outdoor learning, educational trips, swimming, Gaelic games, athletics, cross-country, soccer, table tennis, choir and a wide range of other activities. Our school-based initiatives, including Active Schools, Green Schools, Intel Mini Scientists and The Big Sing, further enrich the experiences available to our pupils.

We also place great value on the connections our children make with the community around them. Our close links with organisations such as Confey GAA, MU Barnhall RFC, Intel, local community groups and other partners provide opportunities for children to learn, participate, represent their school and develop a strong sense of belonging to their local community. Our educational visits and use of the local environment allow children to make meaningful connections between what they learn in school and the world beyond our school gates.

In San Carlo, we believe that education is a partnership. Our pupils, staff, parents and guardians, Board of Management, Parents’ Association and wider community all have an important role to play in creating a positive school experience for our children. We are incredibly fortunate to have a supportive and active parent body, and we greatly value the contribution that families make to the life of our school.

As a school, we are committed to providing an inclusive and respectful environment in which wellbeing, diversity and safety are central to school life. We strive to ensure that every child has the support, encouragement and opportunities they need to reach their potential. We want our pupils to leave San Carlo not only with strong foundations for the next stage of their education, but also with confidence, resilience, kindness, curiosity and a lifelong love of learning.  As we continue to develop our school, we are excited about the future. We will continue to embrace new approaches to teaching and learning, the implementation of the new Primary Curriculum, opportunities for our pupils to discover new interests and talents, and initiatives that enhance the experience of every child in our care.

Most importantly, we will continue to put children at the centre of everything we do. I hope that as you explore our website, you get a real sense of the wonderful things that happen every day in Scoil San Carlo Senior National School. Our website provides information about our school, our curriculum, our policies, our activities and the many achievements of our pupils, while our news and gallery pages offer a glimpse into the busy and exciting life of our school.
